General informations

Guides

All of our guides possess the required official qualification -n°00616ED0222, Equestrian Tourism.

Tack

The horses are trained with simple hackamore bitless bridle. Most saddles are Portuguese military types, plus there are some English saddles. Saddlebags and personal kit bags are provided for overnight trips. Riding hats and half chaps are also available.

Level of horsemanship required

Riders of all levels are welcome. For multi-day rides, a reasonable of fitness is required, as the rides are full days with 7/8 hours either riding or leading your mount, and with significant ascents/descents.

Group

The groups are generally 5 to 9 people.

Accommodation

Overnight stays are in refuges, cottages, hotels, B&Bs and sometimes camping: it depends on the route. Generous picnics and meals are provided, using local products. Special dietary needs can also be catered for.

Rider equipment

The rides are on rolling country and high Alpine terrain. On steep ground, riders will need to dismount and lead their horses, so walking boots are more practical than flat soled riding boots. Half chaps and riding hats are provided. A decent weight of jeans or jodphur is recommended. Riders should bring a waterproof coat, as the weather can change very quickly in the mountains.

Deposit

We request a deposit (1/3) at the time of booking, with the balance due at on arrival. In the case of bad weather or unforeseen circumstances, Horse & Ventures have the option to cancel the booking and refund the guest. No refund will be offered for a “no-show”.

Itinéraires

Routes are given as an indication. The guide reserves the right to modify the itinerary at any time, depending on the weather conditions, the state of the trails, and the condition of the riders and horses. The final itinerary will be sent a maximum of one week before departure.

Public liability insurance

Horse riding in a natural environment carries with it a certain level of risk as with other outdoor pursuits. Guides make decisions to maximise customer safety depending on the weather and terrain. The company is covered by the Equestrian Tourism Centre for public liability, in the case of professional misconduct only. Horse & Ventures are not liable for accidents or injuries which may occur during a ride, nor any other damage or loss of personal equipment. Riders must provide their own insurance. It is assumed that these conditions are accepted upon booking a holiday with Horse & Ventures.
