Boréon-Berghes
2 days/2 nights
€ 350

18-20 August

A two-day transhumance to lead the horses from Boreon to Berghes, on the right bank of the Roya, above Fontan. A short, quite sportive, high mountain ride.

D1 Arrival

We advise you to take public transport from Nice to reach the Boreon: Bus 90 from Grand Arénas on the 18th at 4.30 pm, arriving in St Martin Vésubie around 6 pm where we will pick you up.

- 1/2 board at the Boreon gite in a dormitory (4 people in general)

D2 7h30 riding (in which 2 walking)

We climb early in the morning towards the Maïris plateau, a rough climb that reveals the talent of these horses. After following the ridge we walk down for an hour towards the Madone de Fenestre valley, where we stop for lunch in a field. We then start the second climb of the day up the Prals valley, a very open landscape after passing the lock. We arrive at the Col de La Valette before a 700m descent on foot to Gordolasque where we spend the night.

- Pace: Mountain day

- Picnic lunch prepared by us

- Overnight stay at the Grand Capelet hotel in Gordolasque

D3 7h30 riding (in which 1 walking)

The second day is a cross-country day. We first reach the beautiful red earths where we ride along the mountain pastures, a few paces sublimating the red and green clay landscape. From Granges Colonel, we enter the Mercantour Park and arrive by a winding but noble path at the Col de Raus. Here begins a secret crossing used by very few bipeds ..... We have lunch in a greasy place near a stream and continue the crossing in the afternoon to the path that leads to Jugale. We then walk down to the Ceva plateau (30min) and a nice track takes us to the Granges de l'Amatte where we leave the horses.

Paces: A few paces on the flat paths

Picnic lunch prepared by us

We will take the train from Saorge to Nice, arriving in Nice city at 20:46
